1) Do you agree that you are cyborgian in nature?
With the arrival of information age, we are living in a technological world. We can’t
even live without phone, computer, internet. We live in cyberspace and virtual reality,
There is a common vision of a future that will be different from the present, of a space
or a reality that is more desirable than the mundane one that presently surrounds and
contains us (Kevin Robin, 2000) Barrie Sherman and Phil Judkins describe virtual
reality as "truly the technology of miracles and dreams." (Kevin Robin, 2000) Under
the network of information,we are all cyborgs, so I agree that we are cyborgian in
nature.
In this new techno-reality, identity will be a matter of freedom and choice.” you might
choose on one occasion to be tall and beautiful, on another you might wish to be short
and plain, Not only might people treat you differently, but you might find yourself
treating them differently as well" (Myron W.Kruger,1991)
For example, I rely on my mobile phone so much in my life. Something I feel hard to
say face to face then I will choose message or Whatsapp. What’s more, with the
development of wireless communication technology, the mobile phones have more
and more features and value-added functions. I can log my facebook and twitter; I can
check my email just via my phone. The first thing after I wake every morning is to
check my phone and same goes for before I sleep I will check my phone. It looks that
mobile phone is my part of body.
In addition, computer and Internet is my another important part. I often go to BBS for
acquiring fresh information and watching comments of internet users. I also play
online game in website when I'm free. I'm familiar with many internet users but we
never meet in real life. I am just in a virtual online community. Why do internet users
form online communities? A possible reason is a desire for a sense of
belonging, security, and identity, feelings that we have lost in our contemporary
technological world.(Anthony Fung, 2006).We communicate with other cyborgian,
and we communicate with our avatars. We sometimes look different when we are in
online communities and in real life. We can play different characters in cyberspace.
So we are cyborgian.
