1) Name your favourite television and film. Explain how the film could
shape a person’s identity.
Television and films as medium have great social impact. People as a part of society,
are influenced by TV and films. On the one hand, according to the cultivation theory,
television as the dominant force in shaping modern society television is society's
institutional storyteller (Griffin,2010) On the other hand,All media artifact are the
product of an ideology.(Stokes Jane, 2003) TV and films are a kind of social-cultural
form. Therefore, we can relate ourselves to contents of television and films; what's
more, television and films can shape a person's identity.
This is my favourite Japanese TV drama, which is called “Operation Love”. It tells a
story that Ken is at his best friend, Rei's marriage ceremony. However, he in fact still
loves her and regrets not having confessed his feelings towards her. A fairy lets him
travel back in time and try one more time to get Rei's heart. The love story is romantic,
but for me, the most touching part of this drama is the friendship among the two main
characters and their three good friends, which let me remember my high school life.
For example, the five characters are best friends, they are always together. In the
drama, they fold the exam paper into a paper airplane, play the water polo, watch
fireworks on top floor, and go to beach to camp. These parts resonate with me because
the drama shows my memory of youth. All of these activities I have done with my
friends when I was in high school.
In addition, Operation love expresses an idea that I can't agree with more. The idea is
those who say they'll do it tomorrow are idiots. In the drama there is a fairy help Ken
come back to past, but in our real life, it is no use crying over spilt milk. When you
missed it, you missed it. The drama teaches me to live in the present and do it instead
of just thinking of it.
That's how my favourite drama "operation love" impacts me and shapes my identity.
